Picture Perfect Pose

Oh, those photos! You know the one where the beautiful person is doing a handstand on the top of a rock that jets out over a canyon. Actually I can't look at those photos. When I was a kid we used to hear "Don't play with sticks, someone is going to get their eye poked out! When I see these photos I hear that same voice but it's saying "don't risk your life for a thumbs up!" I swipe hoping my lack of a heart will show them risks don't get rewarded. Even though I swipe the image is still there ripe for comparison.

I took a class at a new studio last week that had a wall of mirrors. I had never been to a class that purposefully had mirrors so looking at yourself while practicing was unavoidable. I taught at a dance studio but I purposefully turned the lights down and faced the students away from the mirror. For a woman with glasses, who doesn't wear them, I was not going to depend on the mirror to help with my alignment but I did peek and I was surprised. My warrior 2 looked very different than what I thought it looked like and quite a far cry from any Instagram pic. I found myself trying to make adjustments to get my warrior 2 to be instagram worthy my body wasn't having any of it. Settling into my less than picture perfect warrior 2 left me feeling oddly curious. With this curiosity I watched my warrior 2 with it's unique shape and with satisfaction settled into realising how far my yoga has come. The judgement was there but it was quickly replaced with curiosity, amusement, discovery and a lot of acceptance. Now that's a perfect pose!

I value your feedback.  If you notice any  spelling or grammar mistakes or broken links on this website, I'd love to hear about it so I can fix them. To save money I designed and edit my own website. Since  I am a yoga  therapist not a website designer,  I appreciate your eyes. Thank you!
